WATCH: Dead to Me (season 2)
The second series of Dead to Me starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini starts this Friday May 8th on Netflix’s and I am very excited to see what happens next in this twisted, honest and funny show.
If you missed the first series, be sure to start watching it right away (I am re-watching it at the moment). It is brilliantly written by Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, The Ellen Show) with great performances by two talented female actors who carry the show (which is still rare to see).
Christina Applegate plays Jen, a widow who is struggling with her anger while trying to solve her husband’s death in a hit and run accident. Jen meets quirky Judy at a grieving circle and despite being polar opposite, they become fast friends in common grief. Judy isn’t what she seems to be, and we gradually start to understand the big secret and shame she is carrying.
The show tackles the layered feelings of loss, grief, anger, friendship, and forgiveness through sharp black comedy. I have a feeling it will lean into more of a thriller for season two as the cover up gets more complicated. It’s good to see more three-dimensional female characters on TV dealing with nuanced topics like miscarriage, death and rage that tend to be dusted over on mainstream entertainment.
